Camping Gear Checklist: The UK Weekend Kit for 2026
Share
Most camping gear checklists read like a warehouse inventory. This one doesn't. It covers six jobs — cook, see, power, signal, fix and stay comfortable — and names the kit that does each one properly. Eight items, all live in the store, all with free UK delivery.
Cover the six and the weekend runs itself. Miss one and you'll spend Saturday night driving to a petrol station in the dark.
1. Cook: a barbecue that folds flat
The Suitcase BBQ Grill (from £39.95) collapses to suitcase format with a built-in carry handle, so it lies flat in the boot instead of eating half of it. Steel body, steel cooking grate, charcoal fuel — no gas bottles to source or refill. Unfold it, light it, and you're cooking in minutes, then it folds back down when the last burger's gone. Grate space handles burgers, bangers and skewers in one sitting, which matters when you're feeding people who've been walking all day. This one ships from our UK warehouse, so it moves fast.
2. See: a light that's always on you
The light you need at a campsite is the one you didn't leave in the car. The Keyring EDC Light (£12.95) clips to your keys — a squeeze-activated white LED for the tent zip, the guy-line peg or the bottom of the rucksack, with a microfibre pad built in for wiping a phone screen. For a longer-running light at the pitch, the radio torch in section 3 doubles as a torch.
3. Power: keep the phone alive
Two routes, depending on how you camp. Walking in? The Solar Hand-Crank Emergency Radio Torch & USB Charger (£29.99) puts a solar radio, torch and USB charging port in one unit, with a hand crank for when the sun doesn't show up.
Driving in? The 1500W Heavy-Duty Vehicle Power Inverter (£64.99) converts your vehicle's 12V DC into a 230V AC feed — enough for lamps, charging stations and robust power tools. It ships with battery clamp cables and a lighter plug. One caveat: the output is square wave, ideal for resistive loads and tough tools, so check compatibility before plugging in anything sensitive.
4. Signal: 24 grams of insurance
The cheapest item on this camping gear checklist is the one you hope never to use. The Stainless Steel Emergency Survival Whistle (£9.99) uses twin-tube acoustic engineering to punch a high-decibel blast through wind and distance. It weighs 24g, measures 57mm, and clips to a pack strap on a reinforced steel ring. Your voice gives out in minutes; this doesn't.
5. Fix: one tool, 24 jobs
Snapped guy-line, a stove screw that's backed out, packaging that won't open. The 24-in-1 Multi-Tool (£26.95) handles the lot: needle-nose pliers, a primary blade and 11 interchangeable driver bits in a 2CR13 stainless and aluminium frame. It opens to 16.5cm for genuine leverage and closes to 10.5 x 5.3 x 1.6cm at 380g — one item in the pack instead of a tool roll.
6. Comfort: the bit most lists skip
Heat ruins a weekend faster than rain does. The Hands-Free Neck Cooler (£19.95) hangs on the neck and drives air through 62 bladeless outlets across three speeds, running for hours on a 2400mAh USB-rechargeable cell. Nothing spinning near hair or fingers.
If there's water on site, the Inflatable Floating Hammock (£16.95) inflates in minutes with any standard pump, supports up to 120kg, and weighs about 350g packed — lighter than a water bottle. The mesh drainage deck keeps you cool without going fully under. Worth stating plainly: it's a leisure float, not a life-saving device.

Pack it in the right order
Load the boot in reverse order of need. BBQ and inverter go in first — you won't want either until you've stopped. The multi-tool, keyring light and whistle ride in the top of the pack or on a strap, because those three are the ones you reach for in the dark or in a hurry. Neck cooler and float go wherever they fit; they're the reward, not the kit.
One last note on timing. Delivery on most of these runs 10–14 days as they ship direct from the supplier, so build the camping gear checklist a fortnight before the trip, not the week of it.
